Hello Blog World,
So as this will be my online journal
for documenting my life in The Bahamas, my natural hair journey, future
endeavours and all that jazz, I thought it would be fitting to start off with
this post.
I was inspired by the beautiful and
wonderful , Dawn Michelle, of Minimalist Beauty, This lady is
totally awesome and has been an inspiration to me in more ways than one. Since
I took the decision to go natural, I have also changed
other aspects of my life such as eating, exercising and downsizing.
When I came across her website I was totally amazed as she and I share the same
interests. I am on a mission to save more money and with this in mind the
theory of Minimalism was introduced to me by her. She is a also a fellow
mixtress and has some great all-natural recipes on her website. I won't bore
you anymore about how great of a person she is just go on over and check out
her blog for yourself and let me know!! :-)
I have never had a "Beauty
Regimen" per say as I just washed my face and slathered on the lotion. If
I knew then what I know now...sighhh. Anyway, I came up with the
following routine/regime in an effort to get my skin back on track.
My personal goal is to be ale to wake
up and not have to put on makeup to cover these dreaded acne
scars and hyper-pigmentation.
I am on a mission to save money and
also find multiple uses for the products that I currently own. The below is an
adaptation of Dawn's Beauty Regime. Thanks Dawn!! (Smiles and waves :-)
Facial Care
Daily:
- Cleanse Face in the A.M. and P.M using the Oil Cleansing
Method,

if needed with (Shea Butter, Olive Oil or Grapeseed Oil)
- Treat
hyperpigmentation in the P.M. with Rosehip Seed Oil or Tamanu
Oil.
Weekly:
- Exfoliate with
one of the following depending on my skin's state:
- Homemade lemon, honey & sugar
scrub to brighten my skin. Recipe details can be found here.
- Yogurt & Raw Honey for its
moisturising benefits.
- Rhassoul Clay/Bentonite Clay
with Honey.

needed:
- Tone with Aloe
Vera Gel on face and neck.
Hair Care
I got turned onto the Curly Girl Method
sometime in May of this year. I watched a couple videos on YT mainly
MahoganyCurls and researched the method. After reading of so many success
stories on the method especially Type 4 naturals, I decided to give it a go. I
decided to go the modified route i.e. not co-wash my hair everyday
because it was easier for me. I am 90% finger detangling my hair now and I must
say I have less tangles and less breakage as opposed to using my Denman brush.
I plan on sticking to this method once I purchase all of my products. I am a
DIY enthusiast so I have researched many recipes for all natural shampoos,
conditioners, leave-in conditioners etc., that I will be testing. The main
reason I have adopted a modified CG routine is because I believe a woman's hair
is her crowning glory. Growing up around a hair salon, I have experienced first
hand many textures, cuts, styles etc. and at this stage in my life I think I
have tapped into the skill of hair styling. With that said, I am not 100% down
with the wash-n-go look all day, everyday when there are so many hairstyles to
chose from.
So here is a breakdown of the regimen
that I plan on sticking to:
Daily:
- Moisturise
in the A.M. and P.M. with Moisturising Spritz
- Sleep with Satin Bonnet or Cap at night.
Weekly:
- Deep
Condition with
one of the following depending on the state of my hair:
- Coconut
Milk with Olive, Grapeseed or Coconut Oil and Honey for protein and
shine.
- Olive
or Coconut Oil with Honey to add shine to my hair.
- Good
Ole hot oil treatment with olive or coconut oil.
- Style
as desired using DIY Whipped Shea Butter Moisturiser over a leave-in
conditioner with or without EcoStyler gel/Flaxseed Gel.
Every
Month and a Half:
- Strengthening
treatment with
my DIY Ayuvedic Treatment.
I'm
thinking about changing this strengthening treatment to every 3 months to see
if there is a big difference since it uses Henna (which can elongate your curls
w\o the chemicals).
As needed:
- Clarify with my
Terresentials Mudwash dupe.
Well
that was a mouthful! :)
Hope
you all enjoyed this post and I'm looking forward to updating you on
my progress.
Toodles,
Tara
